Buying a Cigar Cutter

There are many different types of Cigar Cutters. Some are cheap, others can be very expensive.

Guillotine Cutter

The guillotine cutter is the simplest cigar cutter. You insert the end of the cigar into the guillotine cutter and cut it off using your two fingers. You may recognize this as the cigar cutter used to remove fingers in mob movies.

My very first cigar cutter was a guillotine cutter which I bought from cigar.com for a few dollars. It was cheap and worked fine. Unfortunately, it was not a double guillotine cutter and so the chop could be a little messy at times. Because of this it led me to purchase another type of cigar cutter.

Punch Cutter

Unlike a guillotine cutter, the cigar punch cutter simply cuts of a circular opening on the cigar cap. A punch cutter usually provides a much cleaner cut. Additionally, punch cutters can open the cigars that are too big to fit in your guillotine cutter.

The downsides here are that if the cigar has a tight draw a punch cutter is going to make cigar smoking even harder.

Scissors Cutter

I personally do not use a scissors cigar cutter. From what I understand they can cut any size cigar. The downside is that it requires a little more effort to correctly cut the cigar.

If you are looking to buy any of the above cigar cutters I recommend that you check out Cigar.com I have been ordered cigars and cutters from them for over a year and they are really top notch.
